Bendu is designed as a personal creative space where you can turn everyday moments into a beautiful cinematic daily journal. Unlike social platforms built for public sharing, we created Bendu to prioritize your privacy alongside your creativity. This privacy policy explains how we handle information when you use our app to capture, import, and shape your daily photos with film-inspired overlays, warm color tints, soft grain, and artistic presets.
Our core design principle remains: your personal visual story stays yours. This document clarifies our practices regarding any information collected when you use Bendu, and how we protect your privacy as you build your personal timeline of memories over time.
Information & Data Handling
Your Daily Photos & Journal Content
By default, all photos you capture, import, and edit in Bendu, along with your mood tags, overlay details, and timeline organization, are stored only on your personal device. We do not have access to your personal visual story, and we never upload your private content to our servers unless you explicitly choose to back up your data or share a specific image with others.
Non-Personal Usage Information
To help us improve the Bendu experience, we may collect anonymous, non-identifiable usage data about how you interact with the app. This includes information like which presets you explore most often, how you organize your timeline ribbon, and general performance metrics. This data cannot be linked back to you personally, and it never includes your actual photo content.
Premium Feature Information
When you unlock premium looks through our Film Credits program, we process transaction information to manage your subscription or purchase. We do not store your full payment details on our servers – payment information is handled directly by your device's app store platform. We only keep a record of your premium status to ensure you have access to unlocked features across your devices if you choose to sync.
Optional Backup & Sync
If you choose to enable cloud backup to keep your journal safe if you change devices, your encrypted data will be stored on our cloud services. Only encrypted, unreadable copies of your data are stored, and we cannot view the content of your backed-up journal. You can disable backup and delete all backed-up data at any time from within the app settings.
How We Use Your Information
We only use information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Bendu cinematic editing tools and journal organization features
- Develop new artistic presets and features based on how our community uses the app, without exposing any personal creative content
- Manage your Film Credits premium subscription and provide access to unlocked premium content
- Troubleshoot technical issues that you may report to us, with your explicit permission
- Keep the app secure and prevent misuse of our services
We will never sell your personal information or your creative content to third parties. We will never share your private photos or daily journal entries with any advertising networks or data brokers. Bendu is built for quiet creativity, not for profiling or targeted advertising based on your personal content.
Your Control & Rights
Full Control Over Your Content
Since your content lives primarily on your device, you have complete control to delete any photo, edit your details, or delete your entire journal at any time directly through the app. If you use cloud backup, you can permanently delete all backed-up content from our servers with one tap in settings.
Opt Out of Anonymous Data Collection
You can choose to opt out of anonymous usage data collection at any time through the app's privacy settings. This will not affect your ability to use any of Bendu's core features for capturing, editing, and organizing your daily photos.
Updates To This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or app features. When we make changes, we will update the effective date and notify you through the app before the changes take effect. We encourage you to review the policy periodically for any updates.
Third-Party Services
Bendu uses only the necessary third-party services to provide core functionality:
- App store payment processing: All purchases are handled by your device's app store provider, which is subject to their own privacy policy
- Cloud infrastructure: If you enable backup, we use trusted cloud service providers to store your encrypted data
We do not integrate any third-party tracking, analytics, or advertising tools into Bendu that access your personal content. All third-party providers we work with are held to strict privacy standards that protect your data.
